Chechen television channel Grozny posted a video on their social media Telegram channel last Sunday. In that post, Kadyrov was seen in military attire in a dark room discussing military operations with Chechen troops. The video claims that the area is 8 kilometers (4.3 miles) away from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

Kadyrov posted a video, according to AFP. He said in a statement from the video that the shots were fired while staying at an airport hostel near Kyiv. The base was captured by Russian forces on the first day of the attack.

However, Al Jazeera could not verify Kadyrov's claim. In a video message, Kadyrov said, "A few days ago, we were about 20 kilometers away from Kyiv. We are closer now," Kadyrov said, urging members of the Ukrainian military to surrender.
